Open Farm

On A Mission To Do Some Good

Open Farm was born with the mission to “Do Some Good for Animals and the Planet”—a principle that continues to guide its journey a decade later.

A love of animals and the goal of helping pets live their healthiest, happiest lives by delivering exceptional nutrition means Open Farm sources the cleanest, humanely raised, and sustainability sourced ingredients. As pet parents themselves, Open Farm brings customers along for the journey with transparency at every step.

The Story Behind Open Farm

When the co-founders of Open Farm rescued their first pugs, Maddie and Bella, they set out to find natural, nutritious pet food that would help their dogs thrive—and reflect their personal values. At the time, no options met the standards they were looking for: high-quality nutrition that prioritized animal welfare, sustainability, and transparency.

They wanted to feed their pets premium nutrition made from ingredients that were grown and raised the right way. But when they couldn’t find a brand that met those expectations, they decided to build one themselves.

That meant sourcing the highest quality ingredients, supporting farmers who treat their animals with care, respecting the environment, and committing to transparency for pet parents. Out of that vision, Open Farm was born—from the simple idea that pet food can be good for pets and “Do Some Good,” all at the same time.

The Open Farm Promise

Open Farm was founded with a deep respect for the intricate connection between animals and the planet. ‘The Open Farm Promise’ embodies the brand’s commitment to not only delivering high-quality nutrition for pets, but to enhancing animal welfare, promoting sustainability, and providing transparency. Every recipe features third-party certified ingredients, including animal welfare certified meat or sustainably sourced seafood. As a certified B Corporation, Open Farm is also taking meaningful steps to reduce its environmental footprint, including a commitment to achieve zero waste to landfill by the end of 2025, an industry-first goal to advance regenerative agriculture, and a strategic focus on lowering carbon emissions.

Mud Bay and Open Farm—A Partnership of Shared Values

Those same values—reverence for the unique human-animal bond, uncompromising nutritional standards, a commitment to sustainability, and complete transparency are a commonality Mud Bay shares with Open Farm. It has led to a like-minded partnership where we work together to help everyone—planet, people, and their pets—thrive.

We’re not veterinarians. Mud Bay staff are well educated, and our writing is well-researched, but neither the advice of a Mud Bay staff member nor reading Mud Bay’s written materials can substitute for visiting a veterinarian. We offer carefully chosen, natural solutions, but we believe that veterinary conditions should be diagnosed and treated by professionals.
