Mud Bay > Mud Bay Careers

We’re on a mission to help PNW pets and their people thrive!

PNW Proud Since 1988

Since 1988, the Mud Bay mission has never wavered: Contribute to the health of dogs and cats and to the happiness of those who care for them. As we grew, we wanted to honor the dedication our Muddies brought to the mission, so we shifted from being a family-owned business to being a family- and employee-owned company. Today we have more than 500 Muddies, 65 stores and ecommerce to bring our mission and the Mud Bay Experience (MBX) to life in the PNW.

Our Culture and Values

We believe culture is something that is created, not just stated. We look for individuals who share our Mud Bay values—Accountability, Education, Integrity, Generosity, Responsibility and Fun—to help us create a meaningful Mud Bay Experience for all our customers and each other.

Muddy Benefits

We offer a range of benefits to help you keep work and life in balance. Here’s a list of the ones our Muddies enjoy most:

Employee Ownership:
Work at Mud Bay for 1,000 hours over a year, and you’ve earned a year of credited service towards participating in our employee stock ownership program.

Earned Wage Access:
Mud Bay offers on-demand pay through our financial wellness provider UKG Wallet to help Muddies manage unexpected costs.

Employee Assistance Program:
Mud Bay’s EAP program provides a confidential and accessible network to put you in touch with the right kind of professional to help support you and your family.

Staff Discount:
We like our people to know everything about our products, so Mud Bay offers a 40-percent staff discount on everything we sell.

Paid Time Off:
Muddies may love their jobs, but it’s important for everyone to have time away from work to recharge.

Health Insurance:
If you work 30 hours or more per week, you’re eligible for medical, dental and vision insurance through Mud Bay.

First Year Journey:
We train every new Muddy to understand cat and dog nutrition, physiology and health, and we’ll give you all the information you need to succeed.

Pet-Friendly Workplace:
Have a pet that’s a social butterfly? Polite dogs and cats who play well with others are happily welcomed into the store or home office while you work.

We are action-oriented. We are energized by challenges.

We handle change and uncertainty with grace.

We speak honestly and act with integrity. We walk our talk.

What Makes the Mud Bay Experience (MBX)?

The Mud Bay Experience, or MBX as we like to call it, is what sets us apart from all the rest. It’s a feeling you get when you come into the stores, shop online and when we interact with each other. It’s being and providing the following to our customers and each other:

Gracious. Dog and cat owners are the reason we’re here, and we’ll do anything reasonable to help them.
Healthy. Everything we carry is healthy and well-made.
Happy. Visiting our stores is a happy and educational experience.
Solutions. We give useful, accurate answers and focus on helping people choose healthy foods for their dogs and cats.

Carry-outs. We carry out purchases over 15lbs.
Consistently varied. The human experiences we create are unique to each moment, customer, staffer and store, but each reflects Mud Bay’s values and character.

What information should I include in my resume?
We want to hear about why you would make a great Muddy! Tell us about your strengths and how specific skills you possess might apply to a open position at Mud Bay. Be sure to highlight your accomplishments in previous jobs—not just your duties.
Should I include a cover letter?
Yes, please do! We want to get to know you, if you have pets, and why you feel you’d make great muddy. We also greatly appreciate the effort from our applicants.
Do you offer part-time positions?
We do! We have both full and part-time positions. We will make an effort to indicate this on the job posting, but we welcome you to discuss your availability with the recruiter if you’re contacted regarding your application.
What if I would like to be considered for multiple open positions?
Please submit an application for each open position that you would like to be considered for. We also welcome you to discuss your interests with the recruiter if you’re contacted regarding your application.
How soon will I know if a hiring decision has been made?

We appreciate the time and effort you’ve put into applying with Mud Bay. We strive to keep you informed about what to expect throughout your interview process. However, if you have questions regarding a specific application, contact us here.

We’re not veterinarians. Mud Bay staff are well educated, and our writing is well-researched, but neither the advice of a Mud Bay staff member nor reading Mud Bay’s written materials can substitute for visiting a veterinarian. We offer carefully chosen, natural solutions, but we believe that veterinary conditions should be diagnosed and treated by professionals.
