Wild Rose

Locally Produced Litter—Sustainably Manufactured

Chuck Eggert, who is the founder of Evergreen Kitty manufacturer Wild Rose Foods, has always been committed to sustainability. Chuck previously owned Pacific Foods, which pioneered offering healthy, organic soup in Tetra Paks.  Both companies have prioritized sustainable methodology regarding every aspect of the supply chain. The commonality shared with a company who has a long history of supporting organic and humane farming, minimizing waste, addressing food insecurity and increasing awareness of sustainable practices was a key factor in our decision to partner with Wild Rose Foods and Evergreen Kitty.

Emphasizing Products Produced and Cultivated Locally

Wild Rose owns and manages close to 10,000 acres of farmland in Oregon, more than 6,000 of which produce organic alfalfa at their Silver Sage Farm. They also own the Silver Sage Mill in Hines, Oregon, which is where the alfalfa is transformed after harvest into pellets. This is the same mill that also produces Evergreen Kitty pellets, which are manufactured from pine scraps left over from the furniture-making process.

A Commitment Across All Product Lines to Healthy, Humane and Sustainable Practices

Controlling what happens at each level of the supply chain is important to Wild Rose Foods. For example, all three of their dairy farms are 100% organic and emphasize humane treatment of their animals. The 1,500 cows have over 2,000 acres to roam and are milked at their own discretion. The cows are fed alfalfa pellets grown and processed on farms owned by Wild Rose. Most of their products are sold in Basics Markets, which are also owned by Wild Rose. This approach to sourcing ingredients and materials allows the company to certify best practices are in place from farm to market.

Spotlighting Healthy Products and Practices from the PNW, for the PNW

Wild Rose and Mud Bay also share a strong resolve to philanthropy in their respective communities. For Wild Rose, this commitment takes the shape of initiatives such as donations to the Oregon Food Bank, providing food to elementary schools and working with healthcare providers to increase education about links between healthy food and well being. The commitment to sustainability, producing healthy products and supporting the community are all reasons why Mud Bay is excited to partner with Wild Rose and offer Evergreen Kitty to our customers.

We’re not veterinarians. Mud Bay staff are well educated, and our writing is well-researched, but neither the advice of a Mud Bay staff member nor reading Mud Bay’s written materials can substitute for visiting a veterinarian. We offer carefully chosen, natural solutions, but we believe that veterinary conditions should be diagnosed and treated by professionals.
